![]() ![]() Volcanoes National Park is closed but seeing the area from the helicopter was more than made up for it, Ian's skillful flying and wealth of knowledge made the trip for us. Ian got into those canyons and we almost felt we could touch the walls of the canyons. We also saw the most incredible waterfalls in the canyons. He made sure we were comfortable and went back and forth over an area to make sure that those of us who were seated on different sides of the helicopter got great views. In addition to being a great pilot Ian was so informative and passionate about the wonders of the Big Island from the air. The flowing lava is no longer visible from either the air or the sea but we were able to see the steam as the lava entered the water from beneath the surface. What a magnificent ride! Pilot Ian who is a retired Army helicopter pilot with many years of experience, got us as close as he could to the caldera of the volcano where which has grown enormously and the lava levels in the caldera have dropped. Highest recommendation! – Uwe D.We took the Sunrise helicopter ride over the Big Island with Pilot Ian. Super friendly (give Niels the green card, where is the problem, we want him to be part of the US, we need people like him!). Cool pilot! Professional but not stiff, had wonderful conversations with him during the whole flight (except starting at landing at the airport). I took with my Go Pro a lot of my shots through the (huge) front window, that was great! 4. ![]() The helicopter was smaller, which made the experience (open door) even more exciting. the helicopter was not already running when we arrived, we could sit down calmly and talk with the pilot without excessive noise, and having the whole experience of the start and landing. No extra charge if you are just 2 people occupying the helicopter. Why Mauna Loa instead of others (since I assume that the helicopter trip itself is very similar for all touring companies)? 1. ![]() There are so many highlights on Kauai, but my wife and I had to pick this Helicopter trip as the number 1. ![]()
